Can you find your main water shut off?

One of the most costly items I've seen in my career is an inaccessible or non existent main shutoff to a property or in a property.

First of all, when things go wrong, knowing how to isolate your water supply can be a vital step in getting things under control. Looking for a main that may not be there, is allowing more and more water damage to occur, and one heck of a costly utility bill to rack up.

Here, in the lovely city off Victoria, we have access to our meters ( usually in the front lawn) and an isolation valve- hopefully in a mechanical room...but more often than not, some obscure location Barried behind drywall some where.

If you have a moment, one of the most important things you can do if take a minute to familiarise yourself with both of these components of your home.  And, of you fail to find one or the other, call a local qualified professional(like us) to help you out, and or install one if need be.

Oh, and one more thing.

When locating and familiarizing your self with the components, there's a couple more tricks and tips to keep things moving.

Exercise the valve. Make sure it actually works. Make sure when you turn it off, the water shuts off. Make sure it's not leaking, or really difficult to operate.

Same goes for the city meter. Take a moment to figure out how to open up the lid and isolate it, in an emergency.

If you notice anything off or askew with the water meter, let the city know.

This is where I'll leave you for today.

Thanks for stopping by!
